Private Custom Italy Tours in Puglia

Puglia, the heel of Italy’s boot, is the “new” Tuscany, attracting an increasing number of international travelers. For good reason, with its picturesque whitewashed hill towns overlooking miles of Mediterranean coastline, vast orchards of olive trees, and vineyards of Primitivo and Negroamaro grapes. For nature lovers, there are the lakes, hiking trails and caves of the Gargano National Park. For city visits, the port of Bari, the White City of Ostuni and Lecce (the “Florence of the South”) are just a few wonderful options. In between, the UNESCO heritage site of Alberobello, home to the traditional “trulli” stone huts with their unique conical roofs. Fresh seafood, orecchiette pasta, bread from Altamura, and burrata cheese are just a few highlights of Puglia’s rustic cuisine. There are plenty of wonderful possibilities here for Kathy and Vernon to include in a tour designed just for you!

Best activities: Walking, cycling. Puglia is one of the few regions in Italy with flatter terrain. It is very suitable for casual cyclists, and mixed groups of walkers and cyclists.

Best time of year: April through June, September and October. July and August are quite hot, and the area is crowded.

Visiting off-season: Walking tours combined with city visits are possible year round. Coastal areas will have many closures in the off-season.
